About The Position

The Wine and Spirits Assistant Department Manager supports the Department Manager in presenting fresh, innovative, high-quality products at competitive prices. The role supervises the team, manages inventory, maintains the sales floor, and leads the department when the Department Manager is absent. It is a fast-paced, customer-focused retail role that also involves working with vendors, keeping the department clean and organized, and assisting elsewhere in the store as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions in situations with concrete variables.
Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to file, post, and organize materials; accurately copy data between records; and guide people clearly.
Ability to lead and develop a team and build a collaborative, customer-focused department culture.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Nice To Haves

Six months or less of related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Supervise and assign work to the evening and part-time crew, and train new employees.
Stock, rotate, and face products; review out-of-stocks, advertised items, and back stock.
Order merchandise as directed by the department head and control inventory.
Monitor sales and suggest sales ideas to the Department Manager.
Meet with vendors to obtain point-of-purchase materials and other sales-enhancing items.
Oversee intercom selling and price items for displays.
Review price tags and update signage as needed.
Handle and resolve customer issues professionally.
Assume management duties when the Department Manager is absent.
Unload trucks and ensure products are stocked in the appropriate area.
Clean display cases and monitor equipment and floor maintenance.
Follow sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Instruct, assign, and review Wine and Spirits Clerks’ work; maintain standards and coordinate activities.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as required.
Follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
