About The Position

This volunteer role focuses on the pre-sorting of donations at Hillcrest Transitional Housing's thrift store. Volunteers will play a crucial part in ensuring donations are processed efficiently, contributing to the financial support of Hillcrest's programs and helping individuals, youth, and families move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The role also involves diverting unsellable donations from landfills. Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support, and are expected to commit to a minimum weekly shift of three hours. Available shifts are Monday-Friday from 10 am to 1 pm, 1 pm to 4 pm, or 4 pm to 7 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm.

Requirements

• This role requires the volunteer to have compassion and respect towards all people, including donors, shoppers, clients, residents, staff, and other volunteers.
• Ability to lift and sort donations and then place them in their designated areas.
• Ability to follow instructions and processes.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Promote and support the mission of Hillcrest Transitional Housing in our interactions with shoppers, donors, staff, and volunteers.
• Pre-sort donations as instructed by management.
• Take like items and place them in a tote.
• Tag the tote by product category and place the tote in its designated storage area.
• Empty trash, break down cardboard boxes, and sweep when needed/requested.
