About The Position

WakeMed is hiring a Volunteer Services Manager to lead and grow volunteer programs across the organization. The role oversees volunteer engagement, community outreach, fundraising events, donation programs, and the Volunteer Services team, creating meaningful experiences for patients, families, and volunteers. The manager leads daily departmental operations, including staffing, operational planning, resource allocation, and accountability for results. This is a visible, hands-on leadership role requiring an in-person presence and availability to work evenings and weekends to support volunteer placements, events, and fundraisers.

Requirements

• Experience in volunteer management, volunteer programs, or volunteer engagement initiatives.
• Proven leadership experience managing employees and fostering professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and performance development.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, and leadership skills.
• Skill in managing programs, projects, and teams.
• Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, community services, or another service-oriented environment involving employees, volunteers, or public-facing programs.
• Experience managing programs, services, or operations across multiple departments or locations.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends to support volunteer placements, events, and fundraisers.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Five years of Volunteer Services experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Healthcare Volunteer Management certification preferred.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Five years of leadership experience preferred.
• Three years of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and scheduling.
• Manage and develop the Volunteer Services team, including performance evaluations, coaching, employee development, and performance management.
• Partner with leaders across the organization to create impactful volunteer opportunities.
• Oversee community outreach, volunteer fundraising events, and donation programs.
• Support volunteer boards and drive program growth and improvement initiatives.
• Manage daily department operations, including staffing, operational planning, resource allocation, and accountability for results.
