About The Position

The Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHW), part of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, invites outstanding researchers with experience teaching epidemiology to apply for a Visiting Research Scholar or Visiting Fellow appointment. Appointment rank will be determined based on the individual’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the spring semester undergraduate Global Health Program Epidemiology course, contingent upon sufficient enrollment and approval by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty. The appointee must be in residence at Princeton during the spring semester. Depending on programmatic needs and mutual interest, an appointment for the full academic year may also be considered. CHW supports research on health and wellbeing in developed and developing countries. Visiting researchers have access to scholarly activities throughout the University and will devote most of their time at Princeton to research, discussion, and scholarly collaboration concerning the determinants of physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing and the effects of public policy on health and wellbeing. Applications are welcome from researchers in epidemiology, demography, evolutionary ecology, infectious disease, disease ecology, environmental health, biostatistics, public health, and related disciplines. Researchers from academic institutions may be eligible to receive up to 25% of their academic-year salaries from their home institutions for the spring 2028 semester. Princeton’s salary contribution is based on support from the home institution and will normally not exceed $50,000, plus applicable benefits. Selected candidates must indicate, or authorize Princeton to confirm, the expected percentage of financial support from their home institution and other sources during the visit. They must also submit a confidential statement of their 2027–2028 academic-year salary or authorize Princeton to confirm it. Applicants must hold a doctorate or equivalent degree and have experience teaching epidemiology. The program is open to applicants regardless of citizenship but does not support work toward completion of a degree. Visiting research scholars and fellows must be employed at an institution other than Princeton during their visit and are expected to return to their primary appointment at the end of the visit. Applicants are evaluated on the quality of their achievements and their ability to benefit from CHW activities, the significance of their proposed contribution to CHW’s mission, and their likely contribution to future research.
