Gonzaga University’s School of Education invites applications for a short-term, non-tenure-track Visiting Research Scholar in the Teacher Education Department. The appointment runs from January 2, 2027, through August 15, 2027, and is on campus in Spokane, Washington. The Scholar will support research and programming for the Gates Foundation–funded “AI for Instruction Fellowship,” which provides outreach and professional development to K–12 educators on the intentional and ethical use of AI. The Scholar will also lead or contribute to a focal project aligned with their expertise in multilingual learner education, adolescent development and AI, or special education. Focal work may examine how AI can support asset-based instruction for multilingual learners; contribute to research on adolescent AI literacy, adolescent development, and youth participatory action research; or help design a next-generation Individualized Education Program framework that uses AI selectively to reduce administrative burden while supporting student agency, self-determination, and meaningful family participation. Across these areas, the work emphasizes AI as support for professional judgment and human collaboration, with attention to accuracy, bias, privacy, and legal compliance. The Scholar will collaborate with faculty, develop research-informed educational resources or other project deliverables, and share findings with educators, families, and scholarly audiences. Applicants may be advanced doctoral candidates nearing completion, recent Ph.D. graduates, or established scholars whose work aligns with the School of Education’s mission and priorities. The position is grounded in Gonzaga’s Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic mission and its commitment to equity, dignity, and service.
