About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music (Director of Bands) to begin Fall 2026. This is a 9-month faculty position responsible for directing the undergraduate Symphonic Band, teaching undergraduate music courses, advising and mentoring students, and serving the department, college, and university. The role also involves recruiting students and actively growing and promoting the band program to increase visibility, enrollment, and participation. The teaching load is 15 semester credit hours per semester. Duties include mentoring and advising students, attending faculty meetings, teaching additional undergraduate music courses as needed, and engaging in community and professional outreach to support recruitment and enhance the visibility of the Symphonic Band and music program. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers undergraduate programs in music, art, theatre, and dance, emphasizing student success, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate (DMA or PhD) in Conducting, Music Education, or a closely related field by the start of the Fall 2026 semester
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and ensemble leadership
  • Ability to direct a collegiate band
  • Commitment to student recruitment, mentoring, and service
