About The Position
The Virtual Diagnostic Specialist (VDS) is a diagnostic leader who educates appropriate healthcare providers on genetic testing initiatives and programs through remote virtual and phone platforms. The role builds deep diagnostic expertise aligned with the global diagnostic strategy for the assigned U.S. region. The specialist raises awareness of sponsored testing programs, identifies educational needs in the inherited retinal disease (IRD) healthcare community, and explains the availability of genetic laboratories that perform high-quality gene analysis using appropriate IRD panels and accurate interpretation of results. The role collaborates compliantly with client cross-functional teams and contributes to developing and implementing U.S. diagnostic strategy. The specialist identifies Genetic Testing Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) who have educational needs, attends conferences to learn about diagnostic programs and testing, and participates in compliant advocacy, outreach, and engagement with local organizations. The role delivers education and insights to inform strategy, supports HCPs and partner labs in using sponsored testing, explains follow-up resources, and provides expertise on IRD gene panels and test requisition form best practices. The position also requires a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required.
- Minimum 3–4 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience in commercial, clinical/medical, or diagnostics roles.
- Excellent virtual presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
- Ability to engage healthcare stakeholders effectively through digital and remote platforms.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms, virtual meeting technologies, and digital engagement tools.
- Proven success working in high-performing, diverse teams.
- Experience collaborating with KOLs, laboratories, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Diagnostic and scientific acumen.
- Strategic thinking and operational capability.
Nice To Haves
- A healthcare degree is strongly preferred; examples listed are MS, RN, PA, PharmD, or PhD.
- Experience in virtual customer engagement, inside sales, clinical support, diagnostics, or medical education.
- Prior experience in rare or ultra-rare diseases with a strong patient focus.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology.
Responsibilities

- Partner compliantly with cross-functional teams within the client organization.

- Identify Genetic Testing KOLs with educational needs and raise awareness of those needs.
- Attend conferences to learn about diagnostic programs and testing.
- Participate, where compliant, in advocacy, outreach, and engagement with local organizations.
- Deliver high-quality education and insights to inform strategy.
- Educate healthcare providers and internal partner labs to support seamless use of sponsored testing.
- Explain resources available to healthcare providers for questions and follow-up from testing laboratories.
- Provide expertise on IRD gene panels and test requisition form best practices.
- Model inclusive behaviors, pursue continuous development, and proactively manage bias.
