About The Position

The Victim Advocate I position provides direct support to victims of crime throughout each stage of the Criminal Justice System. Victim Advocates act as a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and the victims involved in criminal cases prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney. The role involves making initial contact with victims to explain the criminal justice process, referring them to appropriate community resources, and advising them of their rights. This position requires maintaining and documenting ongoing contact with victims, keeping them informed of their right to attend and provide input at crucial court hearing stages. The Victim Advocate serves as the primary emotional support for victims and provides guidance during the criminal justice process. Additionally, the position requires attending depositions, conducting victim office interviews, attending court proceedings, and assisting victims with paperwork as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Experience in criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact, or customer service, or an equivalent of training and experience.
  • Ability to pass a background check for employment.
  • Proof of identity and proof of US citizenship OR legal right to work in the United States (E-Verify participant).
  • Adherence to a "harassment-free" workplace policy.
  • Honesty, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Practice safe workplace policies and procedures.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and job performance level.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree may be substituted for experience.
  • Background in social work, criminal justice, psychology, and/or related field.
  • Training and/or work experience in the dynamics of victimization, community services, and crisis intervention.
