About The Position

Carbon is seeking a Vice President of Product Management to lead product strategy as the company enters its next chapter. The role will turn Carbon’s strategy—owning customer relationships and production for selected applications while supporting its subscription business and manufacturing partners—into a product roadmap. The VP will own the roadmap across hardware, materials, cleaning systems, and software, and lead evaluations of new applications Carbon may bring into its own production. This position reports to the CEO and is based in Sunnyvale, California, with an expectation of working in the office. The role requires balancing customer needs, engineering considerations, and production economics. The VP will assess application business cases, prioritize product investments, define requirements for next-generation printing technology, and maintain a healthy roadmap for existing customers and partners. They will also lead and develop a product management team, establish investment processes tied to measurable outcomes, coordinate across company functions, and regularly update senior leadership and the Board.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in product management or product leadership, including 5+ years leading teams of product managers.
  • Track record of bringing physical products from customer insight into high-volume manufacturing, ideally with ownership of production economics.
  • Demonstrated ownership of business outcomes such as revenue, margin, or gross profit, not only delivery milestones.
  • Strong technical fluency across hardware, materials, and software, with the ability to make informed tradeoffs and earn the respect of engineers and scientists.
  • Ability to size markets, evaluate customer contracts, and build rigorous application business cases.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to make and communicate difficult portfolio decisions, including what not to build.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual) due to access to technology controlled under U.S. export regulations (ITAR/EAR).
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a vertically integrated manufacturing business, or building products used primarily by your own factories.
  • Background in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or polymer processing.
  • Experience with regulated products in medical, dental, or defense markets.
  • MBA or general management / P&L experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, yield improvement, or Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.

Responsibilities

  • Own the business case for each candidate application Carbon considers and recommend whether to pursue it based on execution feasibility, top-line impact, and gross-profit contribution.
  • Distinguish viable production businesses from demos and recommend against applications that do not support the business strategy.
  • Set and publish a unified roadmap across printers, materials, part cleaning, design software, and production automation software.
  • Prioritize funding for work benefiting the existing business based on a clear gross-profit business case.
  • Make and communicate portfolio decisions about work to slow down or stop, with a rationale for each decision.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to define next-generation printing technology requirements, emphasizing production cost, yield, and throughput.
  • Translate needs into product requirements for hardware, materials, and software.
  • Maintain a healthy roadmap for the installed base and manufacturing partners.
  • Engage directly with OEM customers, partners, and internal production teams to ground decisions in part economics.
  • Lead, recruit, and develop product managers focused on cost per part, yield, and gross profit.
  • Establish product processes that link major investments to the applications and outcomes they enable.
  • Coordinate product direction across R&D, operations, go-to-market, marketing, and finance.
  • Provide regular updates on the roadmap, application pipeline, and portfolio to the CEO, leadership team, and Board.
