About the position
The Vice President of Business Development at 4D Molecular Therapeutics will be responsible for driving the execution of the company's partnering strategy, including identifying, evaluating, and managing strategic alliances and licensing agreements. They will serve as the deal lead for both sell-side and buy-side transactions, refining the business development strategy, and negotiating agreements that align with the company's objectives. The VP of Business Development will work closely with the executive leadership team, build and implement the long-range business development strategy, and develop a network with key industry leaders.
Responsibilities
- Refine the business development strategy and support requirements for major strategic deals, partnerships, and collaborations
- Identify, lead, and execute transformative pharmaceutical collaborations with 4DMT's platform and/or pipeline
- Coordinate presentations, due diligence activities, and negotiations across multiple functional areas
- Establish and maintain relationships with external organizations and internal colleagues
- Present scientific and business rationale, analyses, and proposals to senior executives and Board of Directors
- Integrate and summarize scientific, clinical, financial, and market information for business case development
- Structure term sheets and generate detailed deal benchmark analyses
- Develop and negotiate agreements for licensing and acquisition transactions
- Lead internal kick-off and strategically manage alliances post-transaction close
- Minimum of 10 years of business development experience at biotech and/or pharmaceutical company
- Experience with complex biologics, new therapeutic modalities, and technology platforms
- Successful track record of identifying, leading, and executing transactions in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical licensing, collaborations, and strategic alliances
- Knowledge in all aspects of business development, including conceptualization, negotiation, contracting, due diligence, and screening capabilities
- Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline is desirable
Requirements
- Masters or Ph.D. or advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline is desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years business development experience at biotech and/or pharmaceutical company.
- Experience with complex biologics, new therapeutic modalities and technology platforms. Gene therapy experience would be a plus.
- A successful, documented track record of identifying, leading and executing transactions with emphasis on pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical licensing, collaborations and strategic alliances is essential.
- Significant knowledge in all aspects of business development, including conceptualization, negotiation, contracting of licensing, as well as due diligence and screening capabilities.

- Base compensation range: $275,000 - $343,000 (dependent on factors such as geographical location, relevant work experience, skills, and years of experience)
