Veterinary Technician, Overnights
About The Position
The Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty in Bowie, MD is hiring a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our emergency team on the overnight shift. This is a full-time position with 3 x 12-hour shifts per week, requiring work on overnights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed. The role involves providing nursing care and critical thinking in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment. The hospital is a 24/7 state-of-the-art veterinary facility committed to Compassion, Collaboration, Education, and Integrity, offering opportunities for continuous growth and career advancement as a teaching hospital with seven departments.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician
- Demonstrated excellence in nursing care and critical thinking skills
- Strong desire to learn and grow in the role
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
- Proficient in calculating doses and administering intravenous drugs and fluids
- Capable of monitoring patients under anesthesia
- Skilled in obtaining and analyzing laboratory samples (blood, urine, and stool)
- Experience in catheter placement
- Possesses the stamina of an athlete to keep up with lively kitties and energetic puppies
- Strong time management, initiative, and task prioritization skills
Nice To Haves
- Ventilator experience is a plus!
