About The Position
MedVet is seeking a Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician for its Emergency and Specialty clinical team. The Nursing department provides continuous supervision to hospitalized patients and ensures their treatment plans are carried out. The role involves identifying patient distress, providing nursing care, supporting recovery, and communicating with clients about their pets’ care. The initial hiring range is $24–$29 per hour, based on skillset and experience.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
- Previous nursing or critical care experience desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
- Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize care based on assessment.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Educate clients on topics including home care instructions, medications and their indications or adverse reactions, and wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
- Assist veterinarians with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
