About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight Veterinary Assistant. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians with estimates, performing diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.), setting up patients in ICU or the Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The Veterinary Assistant provides nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values, reports patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds, and understands the classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and monitors therapeutic response. They administer medications via appropriate routes and duration, perform physical exams, and accurately count vital signs. The role also requires a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and proficiency in R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.

Requirements

Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.
Proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Triage emergency cases as they come in.
Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward.
Discharge patients.
Handle client communication.
