About The Position

VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our overnight Emergency and Critical Care team. This is a full-time position with a schedule of four 10-hour shifts. The role involves working with the latest technology and programs that encourage innovation and creativity, such as VCA Next.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
Experience in an emergency or critical care setting is preferred.
Proficiency in basic veterinary nursing skills.
Ability to perform laboratory tests and interpret results.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to work overnight shifts.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Experience with the latest veterinary technology.
Familiarity with VCA Next programs.
Certification in Low-Stress Handling, Fear Free, or AAFP Cat-Friendly.
Experience with Penn Foster or VTNE test prep.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in the emergency and critical care setting.
Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
Perform laboratory tests and analyze results.
Administer medications and treatments as directed.
Monitor patient vital signs and alert veterinarians to any changes.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Clean and maintain examination rooms, kennels, and surgical areas.
Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient care.
Work collaboratively with the veterinary team.
