About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team at All Friends Animal Hospital. The role supports veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care and helps ensure that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable. The assistant also contributes to clinic operations by maintaining medical records, preparing and cleaning equipment, performing laboratory tests, supporting reception, and keeping the facility clean and well maintained.

The ideal candidate is friendly, outgoing, people-oriented, self-motivated, attentive to detail, and an effective communicator with strong technical skills. This position requires at least one year of veterinary assistant clinic experience and a high school diploma. The role involves evening, weekend, and holiday availability, frequent lifting, standing, walking, and stair climbing, and working around animals, animal waste, and sanitation chemicals.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
• High school diploma.
• Be friendly, outgoing, and people-oriented.
• Be a self-motivated team player who is attentive to detail.
• Have effective oral and written communication skills and strong technical skills.
• Be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Frequently lift 40 pounds.
• Frequently stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Be able to work on a computer system and use a multi-line telephone.
• Be able to handle dogs on leashes.
• Be able to work around disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and excretions.
• Be comfortable restraining animals during medical examinations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
• Assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Fill prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explain prescription directions.
• Assist receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and provide telephone support.
• Perform various laboratory tests.
• Keep facilities clean and well maintained.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
