About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Vehicle Operation Engineer II to support the development and operations of the New Glenn 9X4 heavy-lift launch vehicle, specifically its mechanical subsystem. As an operations integrator, this engineer will be the authority on subsystem aspects including CONOPS, functional architecture, components, software, and integrated interactions. The role follows component hardware development, autonomous software, and integrated development testing, and feeds lessons learned into the subsystem’s integrated flight-vehicle operations. Working with the stage-level Vehicle Operations Integration lead, the engineer will develop constraints, alerts, and limits for New Glenn test and launch teams. The position works across design, manufacturing, and operations teams to support subsystem integration, testing, launch, and recovery. It includes creating operations documentation and test plans, analyzing test results, and helping investigate failures and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Support hardware design reviews and technical assessments.
  • Develop and maintain Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documentation.
  • Author operations documents defining product testing requirements, operations lifecycle, maintenance requirements, and critical performance and requirements interfaces across the system.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for Stage 1 mechanical subsystems.
  • Provide real-time on-console support during integrated tests, launch, and recovery operations, including troubleshooting.
  • Analyze test data and provide actionable recommendations for design improvements.
  • Support failure analysis and corrective action implementation.
