About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Vehicle Operations Engineer III to support development and operations of the New Glenn 9X4 super heavy-lift launch vehicle, including its cryogenic propellant systems. As an operations integrator, this position serves as the authority on the subsystem’s CONOPS, functional architecture, components, software, and integrated interactions. The engineer follows component hardware and autonomous software development and integrated development testing, and feeds lessons learned into the subsystem’s integrated operation on the flight vehicle. Working closely with the stage-level Vehicle Operations Integration lead, the engineer will develop constraints, alerts, and limits for New Glenn test and launch teams. The role supports hardware design reviews and technical assessments; develops operations documentation and test plans; and provides console support during integrated testing, launch, and recovery operations. The position also involves analyzing test data, troubleshooting, recommending design improvements, and supporting failure analysis and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field) or another technical field.
  • At least 4 years of proven experience with mechanical systems.
  • Experience with systems engineering principles and processes.
  • Experience in at least one area of mechanical systems analysis, design, or integrated testing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical system principles, components, and operations.
  • Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at one time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with launch vehicles and mechanical aerospace systems, such as TVC, electromechanical actuators (EMAs), mechanisms, or landing systems.
  • Experience with high-pressure mechanical and fluid systems, including pumps, actuators, valves, accumulators, and fluid conditioning systems.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and fluid system testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of fluid system design, including P&ID development.
  • Experience with electromechanical and electrohydraulic actuators and control systems.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Experience in system development and integration, preferably with aerospace flight hardware.
  • Familiarity with current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS Next Gen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support hardware design reviews and technical assessments.
  • Develop and maintain Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documentation.
  • Author operations documents defining product testing requirements, operations lifecycle, maintenance requirements, and critical performance and requirements interfaces across the system.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for Stage 1 mechanical subsystems.
  • Provide real-time on-console support during integrated tests, launch, and recovery operations, including troubleshooting.
  • Analyze test data and provide actionable recommendations for design improvements.
  • Support failure analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Follow component hardware, autonomous software, and integrated development testing, and feed lessons learned into integrated flight-vehicle subsystem operations.
  • Work with the stage-level Vehicle Operations Integration lead to create constraints, alerts, and limits for New Glenn test and launch teams.
