About The Position

ACV Auctions is seeking an enthusiastic Vehicle Condition Inspector with automotive knowledge and customer service skills. Inspectors represent the company to its clients, explaining vehicle condition clearly and helping deliver trust, transparency, credibility, and strong customer service. The role involves inspecting vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease locations; documenting condition and damage; and listing vehicles on ACV Auctions’ digital platform. Inspectors work with a Territory Manager and other Inspectors, interact regularly with dealers, and travel between dealerships and homes. The position also supports sales and customer satisfaction by helping dealers use ACV’s platform and by identifying opportunities to sell additional services and products.

The work requires outdoor activity in varied elements, driving both manual and automatic vehicles, and physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting 25 pounds or more, bending, and squatting. Inspectors use a company-issued smartphone and ACV’s platform to capture and upload vehicle photos and create listings. The role requires a valid driver’s license and a validly registered and insured motor vehicle. ACV does not provide immigration or work visa sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in the automobile field, including knowledge of body, paint, and mechanical repair, with a customer service background.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to work outdoors in the elements for extended periods.
• Problem-solving aptitude, resourcefulness, and innovative approaches to challenges.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to understand customer needs and expectations.
• Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle.
• Knowledge of system capabilities, relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
• Ability to perform manual labor, including standing for extended periods, lifting 25 pounds or more, bending, and squatting.
• Ability to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.
• Vision sufficient to identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Work with a Territory Manager and a team of Inspectors to inspect vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease locations for damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems.
• Prepare and submit vehicle-condition reports, repair or replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
• Help the sales team upsell or cross-sell services and products.
• Interact regularly with dealers to build strong relationships and ensure client satisfaction.
• Travel to dealerships and homes to inspect vehicles, write condition reports, and list vehicles for sale on the auction platform.
• Take overall and damage photos, match them to the correct vehicle, and download them to the image server using a company-issued smartphone.
• List inspected wholesale vehicles on the ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
• Sign up independent dealerships as buyers on the ACV Auctions digital platform.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
