Utility Locator (West Mansfield, OH)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in West Mansfield, Ohio. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position for a self-motivated professional who can work independently and manage an assigned work area without close supervision. Locators must be willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, maintain company equipment and vehicles, and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The role includes participating in an on-call rotation and working overtime and flexible schedules as needed. The listed pay range is $20.00–$30.00 per hour, with pay provided door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
- Document work using a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work independently in an assigned work area.
