About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect underground infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. The role involves working independently in an assigned territory, using modern locating technology, and communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members. The position includes an on-call rotation and requires willingness to work in all weather conditions, travel, and work overtime and flexible schedules.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Ability and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work through a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
