Utility Locator (Park Ridge, IL)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in Park Ridge, Illinois. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and conducts nationwide utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position requiring at least two years of utility locating experience. Locators work independently in an assigned area, following 811 dig laws and using advanced locating technology. The role involves working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members, and participating in an on-call rotation. Travel and overtime may be required. Pay is $20.00–$30.00 per hour, and employees are paid door to door.
Requirements
- At least two years of utility locating experience.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Work independently in an assigned area and communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
