About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. The role offers independence in an assigned work area, operational support, and modern locating technology. The position is full-time, and the preferred experience is at least two years in utility locating. The successful candidate works independently, follows 811 requirements and best practices, and communicates effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The role requires working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, participating in an on-call rotation, and being willing to work overtime and flexible schedules.
Requirements
- At least two years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Accuracy, safety, and effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
