About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and support utility inspection work. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs nationwide locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. The role offers independence in an assigned work area, with operational support and modern locating technology. The position is full-time and based in Norridge, Illinois.

The Utility Locator must work independently, follow 811 dig laws and best practices, and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The role involves working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and participating in an on-call rotation. The job offers hourly pay of $20.00–$30.00, paid door to door.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Work independently in an assigned territory.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
