About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its South Elgin, Illinois location. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This is a full-time employee position for someone who can work independently and accurately, follow 811 dig laws, and maintain professional communication with excavators, property owners, and coworkers. The role requires working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and participating in an on-call rotation. Overtime and flexible schedules may be required. Compensation is $20.00–$30.00 per hour, and employees are paid door to door.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
