Utility Locator (Eau Claire, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to protect underground utility infrastructure through locating, inspection, and documentation work. The company has operated since 2001 and performs nationwide projects using advanced technology and established expertise. The role is full-time and employee-based, with a preferred minimum of two years of utility locating experience. The successful candidate works independently in an assigned territory, communicates effectively with excavators, property owners, and coworkers, maintains company equipment and vehicles, and is willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, and participate in an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with utility maps, as-built drawings, GIS data, electronic locating equipment, and multiple locating methods.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photographs and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
