About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its Eau Claire, Wisconsin location. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This full-time employee role involves locating underground utilities and documenting work accurately and safely. Locators work independently in an assigned area, in all weather conditions, and participate in an on-call rotation. The role may involve travel and overtime.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Value accuracy and safety; strong character and team orientation.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
• Document work, including photos and reports, using a mobile app.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
