About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its East Liberty, Ohio location. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This is a professional role for a self-motivated person who can work independently, accurately, and safely. The position involves locating underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws, documenting work with a mobile app, and participating in an on-call rotation. The employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, maintain company equipment and vehicles, and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The role may involve travel and overtime, and the company operates 24/7/365.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Must maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work in all weather conditions and maintain punctual, consistent attendance.
