The Utility Laborer supports production operations at Tyson Foods’ Wilkesboro fresh plant. The role includes hanging live birds from the live bird hanging conveyor onto an overhead shackle line. From a standing position, the employee picks up live birds weighing approximately 3.5–6.5 pounds and hangs them by both legs in shackles at shoulder height, about 16 inches from the body, at an approximate rate of 0.5 birds per minute. The hanger at the end of the belt controls conveyor feed rate and bird flow. Duties also include transporting dead-on-arrival birds and placing them on the dead-bird take-away conveyor. The employee also supports continuous production flow by relieving team members for breaks, lunches, and absences; filling open positions; performing varied production tasks; and moving product between production areas. Work involves raw and fresh products in a temperature-controlled plant, with strict hygiene, sanitation, food-safety, quality, and PPE requirements. The employee must adapt to changing assignments and production priorities and follow Tyson policies, plant procedures, OSHA regulations, and USDA requirements. The job requires standing and walking for the shift, including standing on a metal platform for up to eight hours with two 30-minute breaks. The employee must be able to perform repetitive motions and bend, stoop, reach, twist, and lift, carry, push, and pull materials as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Work may involve cold, wet, humid, dark, or dusty conditions. The listed shift is first shift, with a start time of approximately 4:30 a.m. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on production needs.
