About The Position

The Live Hanger retrieves live birds from a conveyor and hangs them by both legs on an overhead shackle line. Birds weigh approximately 3.5–6.5 pounds and are hung from a standing position at shoulder height, about 16 inches from the body, at a rate of approximately 0.5 birds per minute. The hanger at the end of the belt controls the hanging conveyor’s feed rate and bird flow. Duties also include transporting dead-on-arrival birds to the dead-bird take-away conveyor. The role supports production flow and may include relieving team members for breaks, lunches, and absences; filling open positions; performing assigned production tasks such as packing, sorting, staging, and material handling; and moving products between production areas. Team members monitor product quality, food safety, and sanitation, follow standard operating procedures, report hazards and equipment or product concerns, and maintain clean and organized work areas. Other duties may be assigned by administration or supervisors. The job is in a fresh-plant environment involving raw products and temperature-controlled conditions. Employees must follow hygiene, sanitation, PPE, food safety, quality, and contamination-prevention requirements and adapt to changing line assignments and production priorities. The position requires standing and walking throughout the shift, repetitive movements, use of both hands and arms, and the ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and lift, carry, push, or pull materials. The posting specifies standing on a metal platform for up to eight hours, with two 30-minute breaks, and lifting up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Employees must tolerate dark, dusty, cold, wet, or humid conditions and wear required PPE, including gloves, aprons, hairnets, and protective footwear. The approximate first-shift start time is 4:30 a.m.; overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on production needs.
