About The Position

The Special Studies Team within Hydro One Transmission Planning provides specialized technical support across all lines of business at Hydro One. The team conducts a wide range of advanced technical studies, including short‑circuit analysis and EMTP/PSCAD simulations, to evaluate electrical duties to support system expansion, operation, and maintenance planning. As a Special Studies Co-op Student, the successful candidate will, under the supervision of senior team members, develop and validate a Geomagnetically Induced Current (GIC) system model for the Hydro One transmission network. The co-op student will also contribute to short‑circuit modeling, EMTP (Electromagnetic Transients Program) simulation and analysis, gaining hands‑on experience with industry‑standard tools and real‑world transmission system studies.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a post-graduate program in Power Engineering.
  • Must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term (exceptions made for students requiring a work term to graduate).
  • Must have obtained a proper work permit and a Social Insurance Number (SIN) if an international student.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate a Geomagnetically Induced Current (GIC) system model for the Hydro One transmission network.
  • Contribute to short‑circuit modeling.
  • Contribute to EMTP (Electromagnetic Transients Program) simulation and analysis.
