About The Position

Hydro One is seeking a University Co-Op Student for a 16-month Project Engineering role, starting Fall 2026. This position is temporary and based in Toronto. The student will be part of a group responsible for managing engineering deliverables for the design of new and refurbished power substations and power transmission lines. They will also track, monitor, and report on design progress and analyze key performance indicators of the Engineering Services Division. This role offers professional development in power substation and transmission line design, project management, project performance analysis, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Requirements

  • Discipline: Engineering (Electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, industrial etc)
  • Academic Level: Completed at least year 3
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Access and MS Project. Able to set up macros in these desktop applications, and perform scenario analysis using Excel
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary level studies and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term (exceptions made for students requiring a work term to graduate)
  • Must have obtained a proper work permit and a Social Insurance Number (SIN) if an international student.

  • Occasional travel to Hydro One power substations under supervision of Hydro One qualified staff
  • Ontario Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Project Engineers to co-ordinate different design disciplines to produce design for replacing/upgrading power equipment and their protection and control systems in power stations
  • Monitor and track progress of design to make sure projects are designed within the given budget and meeting project schedules.
