About The Position

The Universal Banker/Teller I creates a personalized customer experience by understanding customer needs and providing service and banking solutions. The role processes customer transactions, maintains cash-drawer accuracy, opens and updates accounts, follows bank policies and procedures, and supports branch operations. It also develops customer and business-partner relationships, promotes banking products and alternate delivery channels, identifies cross-selling and referral opportunities, and works toward established goals. The position may involve supporting other First Mid banking centers and participating in community events or promotions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office and computer applications.
• Successfully complete required compliance training and the First Mid training curriculum to become proficient in the basic account-opening process.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of customer service and cash-handling experience and/or previous experience working in a financial institution.
• Previous sales experience.

Responsibilities

• Resolve customer needs in a timely manner and support overall customer satisfaction.
• Follow service standards, including greeting customers and making them feel welcome.
• Process deposits, withdrawals, payments, check cashing, cashier’s checks, and other requested transactions accurately and efficiently within policy guidelines.
• Seek manager assistance for suspicious transactions and obtain management approval for transactions outside authorized limits.
• Follow bank compliance, security, and operational policies and procedures.
• Maintain and balance a cash drawer and assist with daily branch operations.
• Open checking, savings, safe deposit box, basic business-related, and other accounts; make changes to existing accounts as requested.
• Identify process improvements that could improve the customer experience and communicate ideas to branch management.
• When applicable, allow safe deposit box holders entry.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct, and protect customer confidentiality.
• Participate in bank promotions, external community events, and promotional activities as applicable.
• Work in other First Mid Banking centers as required.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
• Develop and maintain relationships with business partners and customers.
• Educate and encourage customers to use ATM, debit card, online, and mobile banking services.
• Maintain knowledge of banking products through training, branch meetings, and corporate communications.
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell products and refer customers to appropriate business lines.
• Consistently meet or exceed established position goals.
