About The Position

This is a multi-functional role requiring cross-training in Unit Secretary duties and at least one clinical support role, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the employee provides customer service and clerical and administrative support, monitors and stocks supplies, and helps maintain a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Clinical support duties are performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and may include collecting patient-status data, performing basic nursing procedures, monitoring and documenting patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and helping maintain patient-care equipment. The amount of time spent on clinical support may vary by unit, but the employee will perform a clinical support role for at least 20% of the time.

The position is on the Medical Telemetry unit at Blount Memorial Hospital. It is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Requirements

• Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care technician, or nursing fundamentals course; one year of experience may be accepted in lieu of the required education.
• No experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional, and efficient customer service to patients, families, and staff; assist visitors and answer phones and intercoms.
• Participate in patient-care rounding with unit staff, including daily introductions to patients and families using AIDET.
• Order, stock, and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager; monitor supply levels and organize supply rooms.
• Perform reception and clerical duties at the nurses’ station, including responding to patient calls and providing administrative support such as data entry, meeting minutes, bulletin boards, and downtime forms.
• Coordinate maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
• Perform duties in one clinical support role on the nursing unit, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
