About The Position

This multi-functional role requires cross-training to perform Unit Secretary duties and at least one clinical support function, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the employee provides customer service and clerical and administrative support, monitors and stocks supplies, and helps maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Clinical support duties, performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, may include collecting patient-status data; basic nursing procedures; monitoring, measuring, and documenting patient responses; assisting with treatments and procedures; and maintaining patient-care equipment. The amount of time spent on clinical support may vary by unit, but the employee will perform clinical support duties at least 20% of the time. The role is based in Medical Telemetry at Blount Memorial Hospital, with a variable work shift.

Requirements

• Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care technician, or nursing fundamentals course, or one year of experience in lieu of the required education.
• No experience required.
• Cross-training in Unit Secretary duties and at least one clinical support role.
• Perform clinical support duties at least 20% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional, and efficient service to patients, families, and staff; assist visitors, answer phones and intercoms, and participate in patient-care rounding with daily AIDET introductions.
• Monitor, order, stock, and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager, including monitoring PAR levels and organizing supply rooms.
• Perform reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, respond to patient calls, and provide unit administrative support such as data entry, meeting minutes, bulletin board maintenance, and organizing downtime forms.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
• Perform the clinical support duties of one nursing-unit role, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant, as applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
