About The Position

This multi-functional role requires cross-training to perform Unit Secretary duties and at least one clinical support function, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the employee provides customer service and clerical and administrative support, monitors and manages supplies, and helps maintain a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Clinical support duties are performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and may include collecting data related to patient status, performing basic nursing procedures, monitoring and documenting patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and maintaining patient care equipment. Clinical support duties comprise at least 20% of the employee’s time, though the percentage may vary by unit.

The role is assigned to Medical Telemetry at Blount Memorial Hospital. The work shift is variable, and the position is PRN.

Requirements

• Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care technician, or nursing fundamentals course, or one year of experience in lieu of the required education.
• No experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional, and efficient customer service to patients, families, and staff; assist visitors with directions and answer phones and intercoms.
• Participate in patient care rounding with unit staff, including daily introductions to patients and families using AIDET.
• Manage equipment and supply ordering, stocking, and inventory in collaboration with the nurse manager; monitor supply levels and organize unit supply rooms.
• Perform reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls in person or by intercom.
• Provide administrative and clerical support, including data entry, meeting minutes, bulletin-board maintenance, and organizing downtime forms.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
• Perform duties in one clinical support role on the nursing unit, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant, under the direction or direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
