About The Position

As an Unarmed Security Guard, you will provide a visible security presence and help maintain a safe and secure environment in a government, corporate, retail, or commercial setting. The role requires professionalism, situational awareness, and strong customer service skills. Duties include conducting foot patrols, monitoring surveillance and alarm systems, controlling access and egress, observing and reporting suspicious activity, and responding appropriately to safety or security concerns. Officers complete accurate reports and detailed logs in accordance with post orders and company policy.

The position also supports SSC’s G.E.T. Principles—Greet, Engage, and Thank—to promote a positive experience for customers, visitors, associates, and employees. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying temperatures, including heat and cold. The Albany, New York position is part-time, with any shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of security experience.
• Verifiable work history.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a State Unarmed Security Guard License if required by state or local law.
• Must pass applicable state licensing tests if operating a company-owned or client-provided vehicle.
• At least 18 years of age, or older if required by state law.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow post orders and company procedures.
• Basic computer skills, including report writing and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions.
• High attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
• Proactive, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to operate radios, telephones, and monitoring equipment.
• Professionalism, integrity, and good judgment.
• Personable and approachable, with the ability to build rapport with the public.
• Subject to drug screening, background check, and other pre-employment requirements as permitted by law.
• Veterans may be required to provide a DD214 upon offer of employment.
• Ability to stand, walk, observe, and communicate for prolonged periods; sit, stand, and walk for extended periods with minimal stooping or kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine and random security patrols on foot or by vehicle, as assigned.
• Observe, report, and deter theft, misconduct, and suspicious behavior.
• Monitor CCTV, alarms, and access control systems.
• Control entry and exit points and verify authorized access.
• Identify and address safety hazards or irregular conditions.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies, and notify law enforcement or emergency services as required.
• Assist with basic first aid and emergency notifications.
• Prepare detailed written reports on incidents, accidents, and suspicious activity.
• Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, professional, and orderly post area.
• Greet customers, guests, tenants, and associates professionally and courteously.
• Engage proactively with individuals to provide assistance, information, or direction.
• Thank individuals for patronizing the location and promote a positive environment.
• Answer customer questions about the site, surrounding area, and available services.
• Assist guests with directions, transportation guidance, and information about area attractions.
• Troubleshoot customer concerns and escalate issues to management when appropriate.
