Lutheran Social Services of Southern California (LSSSC) is a non-profit social service agency dedicated to serving individuals and families in need with dignity and respect. The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs aim to identify and assist individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. These programs provide academic, career, and financial counseling, encouraging participants to graduate high school and pursue postsecondary education. They also assist with financial aid applications and encourage individuals to complete their education. The Tutor will work under the direct supervision of the Upward Bound Assistant Director and UBMS Academic Coordinator. This role involves tutoring participants in assigned academic subjects, assisting them in identifying and realizing academic progress through evaluations, and facilitating weekly after-school tutoring sessions (virtually or in-person). The Tutor will also be responsible for monthly or bi-monthly academic workshops. Necessary materials for tutoring and workshops will be provided. The position requires strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain productivity and attention to detail. Record keeping is also a key responsibility, including maintaining participant progress and attendance records and submitting reports to Upward Bound staff. All record-keeping materials will be provided.
