About The Position

Ryder is hiring a part-time Class A CDL Truck Driver in Sarasota, Florida. This is a local delivery position within 150 air miles of Sarasota, with drivers returning home daily. Drivers deliver US Mail solo, operating a day cab or straight truck and a 48- or 53-foot dry van trailer. The freight is touch freight. The schedule is Sunday through Saturday, with a start time of either 3:00–3:30 AM or 11:30 AM–12:00 PM, for 28 hours per week. Pay is $26.77 per hour plus a $5.36-per-hour health and welfare stipend, with weekly pay advertised at $899 or more per week. Ryder provides well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, 24/7 roadside maintenance, and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. Uniforms and cell phone and boot allowances are provided. Drivers make safety decisions on the road, and the job is protected. The company also offers a 401(k) rollover option with a company match after one year, 12 weeks of paid maternity leave subject to eligibility criteria, employee discounts, and driver referral bonuses. Employment on this account requires an additional USPS Federal Level 2 background screen for access to premises or contractual services. Males born after December 31, 1959 must also meet Selective Service registration requirements unless legally exempt. Applicants must satisfy Ryder’s hiring, driving, medical, and safety requirements, as well as the account-specific screening requirements.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Pass a Ryder drug test, background check, and motor vehicle check, including verification of drug and alcohol history from previous employers for the last three years.
Pass a DOT physical and Ryder road test.
Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
Meet USPS account requirements, including a Federal Level 2 background screen and, for males born after December 31, 1959, Selective Service registration unless legally exempt.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading if required by the customer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
