About The Position

Ryder is hiring a solo Class A CDL truck driver based in Reading, Pennsylvania. The driver delivers freight to Pennsylvania, Maryland, and parts of New Jersey and returns home daily. Routes use a day-cab tractor and a 48- to 53-foot flatbed trailer, carrying steel and coils that require load securement with straps, chains, and tarping. Trucks are well-maintained and 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and access to fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

The position pays $30.62 per hour, with weekly pay and paid training. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with some weekend work, and a 7:00 a.m. start time. Ryder describes the role as a company-driver position and offers support during the transition from owner-operator work, as well as throughout the driver’s career.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Some positions may require additional screening, such as employment and education verification, motor vehicle records checks, road tests, or customer badging or background requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading if required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
