Waste Management, Inc. (WM)•Windsor, CT
•$84,000 - $123,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Waste Management (WM) Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program is a 12-month course designed to prepare individuals for Fleet Manager roles. Fleet Managers oversee primary and secondary equipment and manage fleet and maintenance activities in their assigned area, with a focus on profitability, cost control, management development, training, and safety. Successful program completion requires willingness to relocate within an assigned geographic area. The training location may differ from permanent placement, and WM offers relocation assistance. The program prefers candidates able to relocate throughout the U.S. and Canada for training or a permanent operations role. Training consists primarily of on-the-job field assignments, supplemented by classroom training. The role requires 10–14 months of travel during the training period, with travel costs covered by WM. The targeted start date is March 2027. While some work takes place in an office, fieldwork is central and involves exposure to weather and other non-office conditions. Field assignments require ascending onto and descending from collection and support equipment and riding for many consecutive hours. The trainee may periodically work non-traditional schedules, including 12-hour workdays, some weekends, and early start times. Travel may be by air or car. The trainee completes the FOMT curriculum and develops the knowledge and skills needed to become a Fleet Manager. Training covers WM systems and applications, equipment operation and maintenance, personnel management, financial and accounting processes, forecasting, reporting, scalehouse operations, and safety practices. The position works in a combination of office and plant/field environments and routinely uses standard office equipment. The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $84,000–$123,000. The offer may depend on relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
