About The Position

The Waste Management (WM) Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program is a 12-month course designed to develop individuals into Fleet Manager roles. Fleet Managers oversee primary and secondary equipment and fleet and maintenance activities, with a focus on market-based profitability, cost control, management development, and high training and safety standards. Successful trainees must be willing to relocate within an assigned geographic area. The role involves 10–14 months of travel during training, with travel costs covered by WM, and may require relocation for training or permanent placement. The targeted start date is March 2027. Most training is on the job in the field, with some classroom training. The position combines office work with field assignments and exposure to weather and other non-office conditions. Fieldwork may involve ascending and descending from collection and support equipment and riding for many consecutive hours. The role may require non-traditional schedules, including 12-hour workdays, some weekends, and early start times. Travel may be by air or car, and a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative is required or must be obtained if needed for business air travel or access to federal property. The expected salary range for this on-site position is $84,700–$131,230. The specific offer may depend on relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. WM offers eligible employees a competitive total compensation package, with benefits that may vary by site.
