Fleet Operations Management Trainee

Waste Management, Inc. (WM)•Melbourne, FL
•$84,700 - $131,230•Onsite

About The Position

The Waste Management (WM) Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program is a 12-month course designed to develop candidates for Fleet Manager roles. Fleet Managers oversee primary and secondary equipment fleets and fleet and maintenance activities in an assigned area, focusing on profitability, cost control, management development, training, and safety. Trainees complete field-based on-the-job training, supplemented by classroom instruction, and develop knowledge of fleet management, equipment operation and maintenance, personnel management, and business processes. The program requires 10–14 months of travel during training, with travel costs covered by WM. The training location may differ from the permanent placement, and successful candidates must be willing to relocate within an assigned geographic area. WM strongly prefers candidates who can relocate throughout the U.S. and Canada for training or a permanent operations role. The role combines office work with field assignments in plant and field environments. Fieldwork may involve exposure to weather and other non-office conditions, climbing onto and descending from collection and support equipment, and riding equipment for many consecutive hours. The position may require nontraditional schedules, including 12-hour workdays, some weekends, and early starts. The targeted start date for the program is March 2027. The expected salary range for this on-site position is $84,700–$131,230. The actual offer may depend on experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
