About The Position

The Distribution Router schedules and dispatches drivers who convey products, using radio, telephone, or computer to transmit assignments. The role also compiles statistics and reports on work progress. It is responsible for customer service delivery and route setup, maintaining routing software systems, coordinating driver routes and special orders, and responding to shipping or delivery issues. The position typically works a mid-shift schedule Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Extended hours, overtime, weekends, and peak-season schedules may be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience.
Experience working in a Routing/Dispatch department.
Knowledge of the local metropolitan area and extensive understanding of local market geography.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

Handle customer service delivery and route setup, including use of Roadnet and Mobile Cast.
Maintain routing software systems and support their efficient operation.
Coordinate large special orders with branch driver supervisors and help equalize loads and stops across route trucks.
Work with Customer Service and Corporate Information Systems on nightly billing and end-of-day reports.
Print and distribute reports extracted from software systems.
Provide loading information to night supervisors as required.
Route and dispatch an average of 17 or more truck routes daily.
Coordinate drivers’ routes according to customer requests and geographic considerations, in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
Notify drivers and warehouse supervision or management of schedules and assignments.
Operate an automated routing computer system, track schedules and route or assignment changes, and maintain follow-up information.
Track and enter driver mileage and hours in the recordkeeping system.
Partner with sales and customer assistance teams to resolve shipping or delivery discrepancies and product arrival concerns.
Make on-demand decisions to resolve issues efficiently while minimizing disruption to dispatched routes and customers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
