About The Position

The Toddler Assistant Teacher works at a childcare center located on a university campus. The center is NAEYC accredited and participates in Quality Stars NY. This full-time role supports the Lead Teacher and helps provide toddlers with a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and engaging learning environment. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with an 8-hour shift between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Nights and weekends are not required. The center describes its work environment as friendly and supportive, with staff working together to provide high-quality care and education.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Patience, a nurturing and reliable nature, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to meet the physical demands of working with young children, including bending, stooping, reaching, sitting on the floor, getting up without assistance, and lifting up to 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous professional experience working in a childcare classroom, preferably with toddlers.
Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

Responsibilities

Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities, routines, and lesson implementation.
Provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for toddlers.
Supervise children during meals, playtime, outdoor activities, and rest periods.
Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and other daily care routines.
Encourage children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom.
Follow New York State childcare regulations and center policies.
Work cooperatively with other staff members to support a positive classroom environment.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, and coworkers.
