About The Position

Sacramento State seeks a visionary Director for its Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership program, housed in the College of Education. The program develops doctoral students who connect theory to practice across leadership, policy, and research methods, with equity as a cross-cutting analytical lens. It serves approximately 60 working professionals across three cohorts, with a three-year, nine-semester course of study and specializations in TK-12 or community college. Classes meet in person on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The program collaborates with the Public Policy and Administration program and is accredited as an in-person program. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment combining a continuing tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the Independent Doctorate in Educational Leadership with appointment as Ed.D. Program Director. The Director serves an initial three-year term; renewal is reviewed and recommended by the Ed.D. faculty and appointed by the President in accordance with University policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The underlying faculty appointment continues independently of the Director appointment. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Education. Rank will be Associate Professor or Full Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience; tenure will be considered for applicants with applicable experience. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027, negotiable but no later than August 1, 2027. In consultation with program faculty and consistent with faculty governance, the Director provides strategic leadership for the program, including assessment, accreditation, external partnerships, and resource development. The Director also teaches at least one Ed.D. course and chairs at least one dissertation each year, while maintaining an active research and publication agenda, advising and mentoring doctoral students, and contributing service to the program, University, and broader educational community.
