This open-area search welcomes exceptional candidates from any field, particularly scholars whose expertise spans or connects areas such as archives and digital curation, AI and health, human-centered AI, human-centered data science, human-computer interaction and design, information behavior, and information security and privacy. The department is especially interested in research that bridges these areas or connects them to other parts of the information field and beyond. Faculty are expected to conduct innovative and impactful research and teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The normal teaching load for tenured and tenure-track faculty is 2/1, with opportunities for course releases and buyouts. Salaries are competitive. Appointees will join a founding department of UT Austin’s School of Computing and may collaborate with colleagues across the university, including through joint appointments. The department is interdisciplinary and welcomes scholars from a broad range of academic disciplines. The department and university provide research resources and collaborative opportunities in areas including AI, health, responsible AI, information behavior, human-computer interaction, human-centered data science, and archival research and education. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a field relevant to their research and teaching, or convincingly demonstrate that they will complete it before the position begins.
