Sacramento State seeks a visionary leader to direct its Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership program in the College of Education. The multidisciplinary program develops doctoral students who connect theory to practice across leadership, policy, and research methods, using equity as a cross-cutting analytical lens. It prepares leaders to use inquiry, critical policy analysis, and evidence-based decision-making to transform educational institutions. The evening and weekend program serves approximately 60 working professionals across three cohorts, with students completing the degree in nine semesters over three years and specializing in TK-12 or community college. The program is accredited as an in-person program, with classes on Friday evenings and Saturdays, and collaborates with the Public Policy and Administration program. This is a full-time, 12-month position combining a continuing tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment in the Independent Doctorate in Educational Leadership with appointment as Director of the Ed.D. program. The Director serves an initial three-year term; renewal is considered through faculty review and recommendation, with the President making the appointment decision under university policy and the collective bargaining agreement. The underlying faculty appointment continues independently of the Director appointment. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Education. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027, negotiable but no later than August 1, 2027. Rank will be Associate Professor or Full Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience; tenure will be considered for applicants with applicable experience. The salary range is $94,188–$130,152 annually. The Director works in consultation with program faculty and consistent with faculty-governance principles to provide strategic vision for the program, including assessment, accreditation, external partnerships, and resource development. Director duties include program recruitment and admissions, budget development and oversight, class scheduling and instructor assignments, faculty meetings, committee service, administration of the Ed.D. Office and day-to-day program operations, and ensuring compliance with the Ed.D. Faculty Handbook. As a faculty member, the Director teaches at least one Ed.D. course and chairs at least one dissertation each year, maintains an active research and publication agenda, advises and mentors doctoral students, and provides service to the program, University, and broader educational community. Sacramento State is a public university in California’s capital city and is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution, and Black-Serving Institution. The university emphasizes inclusive teaching and learning and service to historically underserved students. Faculty are required to perform their work from within California under CSU policy. Applicants must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States; the university is not sponsoring applicants for certain H-1B employment subject to the specified fee.
