About The Position

The Telephone Operator operates the telephone switchboard console, overhead paging system, two-way radio, alpha/numeric paging unit, and wall alarm panels. The role answers calls courteously and promptly, connects callers to their requested destinations, and provides information and assistance as needed. The operator also performs light clerical functions and may occasionally train new employees.

Requirements

High school education, GED, or equivalent is preferred.
Associate's or technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience, is preferred.
Customer service call center experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Answer, evaluate, and direct incoming telephone calls efficiently, providing requested information and courteous, professional assistance.
Provide answering service coverage for designated departments according to established procedures.
Operate the paging system and handle emergency calls according to established procedures.
Dispatch communications between hospital personnel and security when the security office is closed.
Monitor calls to ensure appropriate follow-through.
Monitor alarm panels, telephones, two-way radio, and fax equipment; document malfunctions or alarm activations and notify designated personnel or departments.
Verify and update on-call lists.
Assist with patient admitting as needed and maintain accurate, current patient information.
Sort and distribute mail as needed.
Orient, instruct, mentor, and develop personnel regarding job duties, assignments, opportunities, departmental activities, and relationships with other departments and staff.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
