About The Position

The Technician-Patient Care PCT provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care on a medical-surgical unit under supervision. The role includes assisting patients with mobility and daily living activities, monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition, documenting care, maintaining patient rooms and medical equipment, and performing specified technical patient-care tasks as directed by a staff nurse. The position is based at UAB St. Vincent's St. Clair. Available schedules include full-time night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and PRN rotating shifts from 7:00 to 7:00. Requirements

High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after discharge.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Document necessary records.
Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
Perform technical patient-care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
Perform other duties as assigned.
