About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works in the Medical Surgical department at UAB St. Vincent's St. Clair, performing basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. The role includes supporting patients with mobility and activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition, documenting records, maintaining patient rooms and equipment, and performing designated technical care duties under the direction of a staff nurse. The posting lists full-time night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., as well as PRN rotating shifts from 7:00 to 7:00.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within one month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff, and document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
